Vienna International Film Awards (VIFA) is an annual film festival held in the heart of Vienna.
VIFA accepts short-films in various genres and categories from across the globe. Our judges consist of international filmmakers and industry professionals.To view the judges of our festival please make sure to visit us on:

Our festival is run by a small group of volunteers, film enthusiasts, and professional film judges.
The objective of VIFA is to provide support to independent filmmakers, help promote their talent and to give them the unique chance to present their work to industry professionals with vast experience in their field. Two time Emmy winner Lars Deutsch was born into a non-musical family and was astounded when he discovered that a guitar needs tuning. After that he went from heavy metal guitarist, to singer, to songwriter, to a Masters in classical composition, to international performances of his classical works, to lecturing in composition and audio production.
Lars has scored over two hundred thirty films that have collected over one hundred awards, and his songs are also in high demand. As an audio branding expert, he has created audio logos for a range of companies.
Tab Murphy is an Academy Award nominated screenwriter who has worked extensively in both live action and animation.
He received an Academy Award nomination and a Writer’s Guild Award nomination for his work on ‘Gorillas in the Mist’, starring Sigourney Weaver.
He wrote and directed the western fantasy ‘Last of the Dogmen’, starring Tom Berenger and Barbra Hershey, and was nominated for Annie Awards (in animation) for his work on Disney’s ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’, ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Brother Bear’. He also wrote the screenplay for Disney’s ‘Atlantis, the Lost Empire’.
Silvia Schneider is an Austrian television host, actress and fashion designer.
In 2017 she was nominated for the Austrian film & television award “Romy” in the field of show/entertainment.
She is a TV producer (“Silvia kocht”) and hosts various TV shows for different television stations in Austria and Germany.
Gretchenfilm was founded in 2019 by Annegret Weitkämper-Krug with the aim of producing films that are related to visual arts, literature, music or theatre. The company founder's many years of expertise in the field of visual arts and corporate culture suggest this orientation. The co-production of the comedy "Faking Bullshit" for the German cinema market with Bjarne Mädel in the leading role (premiere at Filmfest München 2020) and the feature film "Nebenan" based on a script by Daniel Kehlmann with Daniel Brühl in the leading role (shooting May/June 2020) already show the dynamic development of the company as a partner for national and international film projects in the first year after its foundation.
Valerie Huber is an Austrian Actress and Director. She grew up in Afrika
and the United States and studies acting in Vienna. In 2022 she was
nominated for an Austrian Romy for best Actress and is on the Forbes 30
under 30 list for 2023. She has played lead roles in various Netflix,
Amazon and Feature Films nationally and internationally.
Laura Bilgeri is a young actress & singer based in Los Angeles, New York &
Vienna. In less than four years in Hollywood, she has worked in feature
film, network and cable television and done voice overs and commercials.
She recently played the female lead in the sci-fi/action thriller "The
Recall" alongside Wesley Snipes ("Blade") and RJ Mitte ("Breaking Bad").
She also has a recurring role on the major CW/Warner Bros. Network Show
"iZombie" where she plays Sloane Mills. Born in Vienna, Austria, she
partly grew up in Northern Italy and spent a lot of time in Paris.
Because of her international background, Laura speaks English, German,
French and Italian without an accent.
David Wurawa is a multiple Award Winning Actor with an extensive and
international body of work in Film, Television, Radio, Voice, Web, and
Theatre. The media and his peers describe David as a positive,
proactive, disciplined and creative professional. David enjoys the
challenge of stepping into a character and seeing where it will take
him.

For many years and more than a hundred domestic and international Movie productions, he has been either in front of or behind the camera.
For the first time as a villain in the Movie „Desire Hope“ he appeared as a brutal contract killer.
Other Highlights include productions such as Zach Snyders „Army of Death“ prequel "Army of thieves" for Netflix, the multi-award winning film "Corsage", or films like „Pulled Pork" and "Operation White Christmas".
Ben Dahlhaus is
an up-and-coming actor from Germany and is known for his work in films
such as "The Passenger", "Zwanenzang" and "Love - am Ende zählst du". He
also appears in several tv series such as "WAPO Duisburg" and "Alles
was zählt”.
Katharina Scheuba is a quadrilingual actress & medical doctor. She grew up in
Vienna, the United States and has lived in different cities across
Europe and the US. She studied medicine in Vienna and Philadelphia and
acting in NYC. She has played lead roles in several feature films,
pilots and short films, both nationally and internationally. She
recently played the lead in ’The Dark Girl’, ’The Last Time We Broke Up’
and ‘Dinner for Eight’, as well as a supporting role in the US
production ‘Gringo Hunters’.
Olivia Pflegerl was born in Vienna. After high school she went abroad to
improve her skills in Spanish and English. At the age of 23 she decided
to study Performing Arts. During and after her studies she had roles
such as "Snow White" in "Schneewittchen und die zwei Zwerge", "Fanny" in
"Liebesgeschichten und Heiratssachen", "Fini" in "Land des Lächelns" at
the Lake Festival in Mörbisch and "Molly ' in 'Shakespeare in Love' in
the „Kammerspiele der Josefstadt.“
With episode leading roles in series such as “Schnell Ermittelt“ and “Soko Donau”, she gained her first set experience.
You know Emily Cox from her leading role as the female Viking Warrior 'BRIDA' in the epic and highly successful Netflix series 'The Last Kingdom' which is now in its 5th and final season. Roxanne Rapp is an English-Austrian multi-lingual actress, writer and producer. Based in London, Rapp grew up on set with her father and found her calling in entertainment at a young age. Rapp's work across the industry in theater, television, film and even dancing has given her a wide range of experience and skill sets that she brings to each project she pursues.
Daniel Gawlowski has been actively working as an actor for theater, cinema and television for over 12 years and dealt during his "System Design" master studies with the sociological and psychological causes of trends in the film industry. Besides his scientifical and acting backgroud, he is highly passionate about watching and analyzing movies of all kinds. Doesnt matter if that analysis is about a sophisticated Arthouse movie or a mainstream daily soaps: He always tries to identify common patterns that make good movies great. In the end it is not about one specific scene, or an actor or the camera. It is the sum of the parts that create the so called "magic", that gives you the feeling of: "Jeez, what was that?". His top film recommendation of the last years: "Parasite" by "Bong Joon-ho".
Elly is a Producer, Director and Writer based in Vienna, Austria. After working as a translator and an intercultural consultant, Elly started her firm ELLLY Films in 2012. Since then she has worked with partners across the world to produce and distribute commercials, documentaries, television series as well as feature films. In her work as a producer Elly has focussed on international and intercultural co-productions. On her films, which include Selfiemania (2019, also directed by Elly Senger-Weiss), Domingo (2020, dir. Raúl López Echeverría), and Tutti Per Uma (2021, dir. Susy Laude & Elly Senger-Weiss), she has collaborated with partners in Italy, France, Mexico, and Russia. Elly is fluent in German, French, English, Spanish and Italian.
Heinz- Arthur Boltuch is an Austrian TV/Movie actor. His last film was an italian movie named “Tutti per Uma”. He also played in “Vienna Blood „produced by BBC/ORF.

Tizian Gruner is an award winning producer.
In 2017, he founded his own full-service film production company GRUNERFILMS LLC.
The company specializes in advertising and narrative films.”
Alexander Bruckner is an award winning director and producer. In 2007 he graduated in Film Directing at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. In 2014 he completed his M.A. in Film & TV production at the Danube University Krems.The same year he founded a film production company with the name “Live Free, Live Film Productions”. In 2020 Alexander founded the Vienna International Film Awards. In 2022 he became a board member at the Austrian Directors Association.

Born in Germany and raised in Texas, Lester Greene is an actor and a film producer. Lester drove buses in New York City for 10 years before moving to the state of Georgia last year to pursue his filmmaking career full time. He has worked with such actors as Michael Kenneth Williams ("The Wire"), Paul Sorvino ("Goodfellas"), Josh Helman ("Mad Max: Fury Road) and Yael Stone ("Orange is the New Black"). Grant MacAllister is an award winning Cinematographer who specializes in dramatic narrative film. He graduated Columbia College Chicago in 2012, and is a member of ICG Local 600. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Jessica Welsh is a Los Angeles-based writer who has written extensively in the kids animated television space for shows on Apple TV+, Netflix, Disney Jr. and more. She graduated from Princeton University and is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre workshop.
Sandra Hartlauer is an Austrian Actress and Singer.
She studied acting at the “Schauspielschule Krauss” in Vienna.
Sandra works in theater, film and television.
Her latest works appearead worldwide on renowned film festivals.
Markus Schleinzer was born on November 8, 1971 in Vienna, Austria. He is a director, writer and actor, known for Angelo (2018), Michael (2011) and The White Ribbon(2009). Since the late 1990s, Schleinzer has been a casting director of more than 60 predominantly Austrian film and television productions.
ADA represents the interests of Austrian film and television directors. As a member of FERA (Federation of European Film Directors), ADA represents the interests of Austrian directors in Brussels, among the influential committees of the European Union.
The Austrian Film Institute (Österreichisches Filminstitut) is a national film funding agency which supports cinema productions as a cultural product as well as the Austrian film business and thus contributes to strengthening the Austrian film industry and the creative and artistic qualities of Austrian film to ensure its domestic and international success. It is a legal entity under public law and its registered office is located in Vienna. The financial year of the Austrian Film Institute is the calendar year.

6) Student Films will require proof of student ID to qualify for the discounted rate. Any non-student films submitted into the category will be disqualified.
